CHILDREN’S STORY BOOKS
Welcome to a World of Adventure
Read a true story about Alfie the Cat, a touching story of kindness.
Our own Alfie the Cat soft toy is for your child to hold whilst you read them the story.
Meet a naughty but nice fearless mouse called Flynn, and cuddle his adorable soft toy character.
Learn about the history of Cromford Mill by following the adventures of a little duck called Arkwright.
You’ll find the cutest duck you’ve ever seen totally irresistible. And you won’t be alone!
This was Sue’s first commission from the Arkwright Society.
“A Tale of Three Kittens: Milly, Molly & Maisy” is another true story about three sisters,
kittens adopted from an animal welfare shelter.
Maisy tells their story and has her own cuddly soft toy.
“Owl to the Rescue” is a delightful story about how Owl saves the woodland creatures.
And our Owl soft toy is a must!
“Bobby Dog” was launched at Calke Abbey,
a National Trust property near Derby, in July 2022.
And the soft toy, Bobby, comes with an adoption certificate for its young owner!
2024 saw the 10th anniversary of Sue’s first book, “Alfie’s Story”.
To celebrate, Liz completely re-illustrated the book and the
10th anniversary celebratory edition was published in October 2024.
July 2025 saw the arrival of “Billy the Bat”, and his accompanying character soft toy.
Whoever would have thought a bat could be so lovable?
This book was a commission from Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorkshire.
Sue’s latest book, “Out and About with Arkwright the Duck”, was published in October 2026.
The sequel to his first adventure, it features rides in a cable car and a steam train,
along with a camping holiday and a trip to the allotment.
These eight books by Derbyshire author, Sue Wilkins, are beautifully illustrated by Liz Furness, also from Derbyshire.
They are ideal bedtime stories or indeed anytime stories for babies and then children up to 7 or 8 years of age.

I am delighted to announce that sales of my books just topped 37,500 (March 2026).
Whoop, whoop!! Thank you to every single one of those 37,500 readers.
On a different note, I’ve managed to hold the price of my books the same for the last 10 years.
But increases in the cost of paper, ink and transport during that time mean that, sadly, I’ve had no choice but to increase my prices.
A Few of our Illustrations
The stories of Alfie the Cat, Fearless Flynn the Mouse, Arkwright the Duck, the Three Kittens, Milly, Molly and Maisy and Owl, all come to life with Liz’s beautiful illustrations. Bobby Dog, Billy the Bat and more adventures for Arkwright have now joined them.
Here are just a few of our favourite images from the books.
